Blackjack, formerly called Black Jack and Vingt-Un, is the original American sub-game of a multi-player global network of casino games called Twenty-One, which has its origins in Europe. In the traditional version of the game, a player would face the dealer, who would throw twenty cards face down on the table. A player could then use his/her remaining hand to attempt to make the highest hand possible by matching cards and matching the highest card up with another card. After all, the object was to match cards and get the highest card (or twenty-one if you were playing with that many cards left) for the lowest total bet at the end of the session.

For many players of blackjack, however, the only way to win is to remove all of the cards that the dealer has dealt to the table – a strategy known as “high odds” play. High odds play involves using the entire deck (not just a single card) to generate the highest possible total hand. If you eliminate all the cards the dealer has dealt to the table, you are left with just the single card left to use – and it may not be the ace you thought it was! As you can see, in the traditional sense of the game, all of the cards have to be in play for the game to continue, whereas in no limit holdem games, any single card may be discarded by the dealer at any time, providing no others have been used to create a high or low hand.

This leads to another important distinction between no limit holdem games and blackjack: in general, it is easier for players to doubles. In a traditional game where a player has an ace and two cards to your two, he is typically forced to raise the bet to at least four times what he had bet. However, in a no limit game because all of the cards have already been used, a player cannot raise his bet to over four times the original amount unless another card is discarded – and sometimes, there are only a few cards left. Therefore, in a no limit game it is easier to double the players bet, especially if he has an ace in his hand.

Of course, there are a few other differences as well. In a traditional game of blackjack, once a player has been declared the winner, he takes the pot regardless of whether he has a good hand or not. However, in a no-limit game, the first two cards are the cards that determine the winner – and if either player has an Ace and a King that player is out of the game.

Also, in a traditional game, when the last two cards are dealt it is customary for the dealer to call. However, in a no-limit game, the last two cards are dealt as the “low cards” or the “turn”. So, the “card draw” is different: in a blackjack table, the dealer will usually call before the final cards have been dealt or before the first two cards are dealt.

Although, both games have their differences, one cannot doubt the popularity of casino blackjack.
